Many of the clever designs of chairs and tables created by these architects, interior designers and furniture designers are still in production today, making them fall into the category of classic furniture.

Modern Furniture Designers

NEW Designer Biographies! Frank Lloyd Wright, Charlotte Perriand, Le Corbusier and Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

Alvar Aalto - Alvar Aalto's design concepts were organic and used the human form.

Arne Jacobsen - worked in numerous artistic fields, from architecture, interiors, furniture, ceramics and textile design.

Charles Eames - Charles Eames was the first architect to be totally at home with technology and he used it with an artist's flair.

Eero Aarnio - he embraced the new material production processes that were available from the late 1950's onwards.

Eero Saarinen - He believed very strongly that the whole field of design is all one body. He had three design principles - Function, Structure and being part of our time.

Eileen Gray - was multi talented like most successful designers, she trained under Songawara - a Japanese craftsman in the art of lacquer, just one of her many skills.

George Nelson - His valuable architectural knowledge made him an excellent architectural critic and design theorist.

Gerrit Rietveld - was famous for his cheap simple modular approach.

Jean Prouve
- In 1931, Les Ateliers Jean Prouve was setup, this was a furniture manufacturing company.

Marcel Breuer - produced tubular steel chairs that were in tune with the new architecture.

Ray Eames - She designed furniture, and textiles and was involved in the film industry with Charles.
