Eero Saarinen's womb chair, 1948, was molded fiber glass covered with foam and upholstered with fabric.

He designed the tulip chair, 1956, with a cast aluminum base and a light mould fibre glass upper.

Saarinen did not like metal tubing and preferred to design his sculptural forms.
