Standard Chair - Jean Prouve 1934

Jean Prouve's Standard Chair is one of the classics in the history of furniture and most collectible of chair designs.

Prouve's inventive move from tubular steel, innovated by the Bauhaus movement, into the use of bent pressed and compressed sheet metal, for its strength meant that the chair frame is extremely strong whilst continuing to look lightweight.

The legs are angled backwards and look like fins.

It is robust and functionally versatile, it's seat and back are made of plywood and the front edge of the seat is curled downwards for comfort to the legs and aids circulation whilst seated.

The frame has a lacquer finish and as well as bent pressed and compressed steel uses tubular steel for the front legs.

The seat is versatile, with the look changing on treatment of the seat, painted, varnished etc.

It can be used as a dining chair, conference chair, cafe chair, in homes and offices.
